Novak Djokovic, a Serbian tennis superstar, is aiming to add an Olympic gold medal to his collection. In the women’s singles event, young American tennis player Coco Gauff is also competing for a chance at gold. The Olympic tennis tournament features 64 players in both the men’s and women’s singles events, with matches being best of three sets. A set is won by the first player to reach six games, with a tiebreaker occurring at 6-6, requiring a player to reach seven points to win. The scoring system in tennis, with points being represented by numbers like 15, 30, and 40, has its origins in the quarters of a clock face. In doubles events, the rules are the same as in singles with the exception that a tiebreaker is played in place of a third set if the match is tied at one set all. The tournament is a straight knockout bracket, with the winners of each semifinal advancing to play for gold and silver, while the losers compete for the bronze medal.
