Prosecutors say Michael Lang claimed to be receiving messages from space before Schaumburg IL shooting of tree trimmer

Michael Lang, 55, appeared in court on Friday in Schaumburg, Illinois, facing attempted murder charges for shooting a tree trimmer. Lang allegedly came out of his home and yelled at landscapers hired by his father for making too much noise. After ordering them to leave, Lang retrieved a handgun from his car and shot one of the workers in the abdomen, allegedly saying, “I told you to leave or one of you was going to die.” After a standoff with police, Lang surrendered peacefully. Neighbors were evacuated during the incident, with one describing the heavy police presence as “crazy.” The victim, a 66-year-old landscaper, was hospitalized in serious but stable condition. Lang’s parents were not home at the time of the shooting, and Lang reportedly called 911 claiming to receive messages from outer space. Lang, a lawyer with his own law firm, is being held in custody as he is considered a threat to the public. He is scheduled to appear in court on August 23. The victim’s family declined to speak on camera but stated that their loved one is hospitalized and doing okay.
