Hendershot to Bring Talents to Illinois Next Season: Illini Sports News

Mahomet-Seymour senior Hunter Hendershot has made the decision to continue his throwing career at the University of Illinois, despite receiving interest from colleges in warmer climates like California, Arizona, and Florida. Hendershot, a two-time defending state champion in shot put and discus, cited his asthma and sensitivity to hot weather as reasons for wanting to stay close to home. He chose Illinois over Northern Iowa, noting that he felt a connection with the coaches and athletes at the program.

Hendershot, who holds the school records in shot put and discus, is currently staying prepared for a possible return to competition later this spring, despite the uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic. With his family’s home equipped with a shot and discus ring, he is able to continue training daily. In a statement on Instagram, Hendershot expressed his disappointment at the potential loss of his senior track season and the negative impact of COVID-19 on his final year of high school athletics.

Despite the challenges, Hendershot remains focused on his goals and is excited to represent Illinois in the future. He is determined to stay prepared and continue training, even in the midst of uncertain times. His commitment to the University of Illinois marks a significant milestone in his athletic career and sets the stage for his future success in college athletics.
