Trudeau’s Approval Ratings Drop; Calls for Resignation from Some Liberal Party Members

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, known for his promises of “real change” and “sunny ways,” now finds himself facing a challenging political landscape. The Liberal Party, which had been leading polls, is now trailing the Conservatives by as much as 20 points. A recent special election loss in Toronto-St. Paul’s raised concerns about Trudeau’s leadership and prompted calls for him to step down.

Trudeau, however, has shown no intention of resigning. Despite facing a string of scandals and controversies during his nine years in power, including struggles with economic growth and climate action, he remains determined to deliver progress for Canadians. The next federal election must be held by October 20, 2025.

The rise of Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre has also contributed to Trudeau’s challenges. Poilievre, a populist firebrand, has capitalized on public dissatisfaction with high inflation, housing costs, and other issues. The Conservatives have broken fundraising records under his leadership, presenting a formidable challenge to Trudeau’s government.

Efforts to reinvigorate the Liberal Party with cabinet changes and messaging aimed at addressing generational issues have so far failed to gain traction. With no clear successor to Trudeau in sight, the party must find a way to regain momentum before the next election. As voters seek change and grow frustrated with the status quo, Trudeau faces an uphill battle to maintain his grip on power.
