Take Action Today, a local group in Southern Illinois, is dedicated to addressing the drug problem in the region by providing recovery and treatment programming. One success story is Zandalee Young, who struggled with drug addiction after experiencing difficult life events. Young completed two recovery programs, one at the Franklin County Jail and another with Take Action Today. She hopes to one day help others in their recovery journey.
Mike Tyson, the executive director of Take Action Today, emphasizes that recovery is not a linear process and requires commitment and support. The organization has had nine people complete their recovery coaching program, and they are continuously working with hundreds of individuals to customize services to their needs. One new program they have added is hosting crystal methamphetamine anonymous meetings, making them the only group south of Chicago to do so.
Young credits the community support she received from Take Action Today for helping her through tough times. She highlights the importance of having someone to reach out to when struggling mentally. Tyson hopes to see more individuals maintain their commitment to recovery and continue to grow their program to meet the needs of the community. Overall, Take Action Today’s efforts are making a difference in helping individuals overcome drug addiction and providing the support they need for a successful recovery journey.
