Eastern Illinois University’s men’s and women’s tennis teams have recently been recognized for their outstanding academic achievements by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Both teams were named as ITA All-Academic teams for the 2020-2021 academic year.
In order to qualify for this prestigious honor, teams must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or above. The EIU men’s and women’s tennis teams far exceeded this requirement, with the men’s team boasting a GPA of 3.46 and the women’s team achieving a GPA of 3.82. These impressive academic achievements demonstrate the commitment and dedication of the student-athletes to both their sport and their studies.
In addition to the team honors, several individual players from both the men’s and women’s teams were also recognized for their academic success. Student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.50 or above to qualify for this honor, and the EIU tennis players met and surpassed this criteria. These individual honors further underscore the emphasis that the university places on academic excellence among its athletes.
Head coach of the men’s and women’s tennis teams, Alaina Trgovich, expressed her pride in her players for their hard work on and off the court. She credited their success to their strong work ethic and dedication to their academic pursuits. The ITA All-Academic honors reflect the university’s commitment to supporting student-athletes in their academic endeavors and helping them achieve success both in their sport and in the classroom.
Overall, the EIU men’s and women’s tennis teams have proven themselves to be exceptional student-athletes, excelling in both academics and athletics. Their recognition by the ITA serves as a testament to their hard work, determination, and commitment to excellence.
