Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-02) recently participated in a roundtable discussion hosted by the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) focusing on strategies to support rural communities in the U.S. The meeting, held at the Gilbert Street Cafe, included key stakeholders such as Bryan Severs, a local farmer and ISA Director, JT Barnhart from OSF HealthCare, and Illinois State Senator Paul Faraci.
The participants discussed various topics including improving rural healthcare, investing in transportation infrastructure, market development initiatives through the Soy Innovation Center, and the importance of agricultural research in addressing challenges faced by rural America. Congresswoman Kelly emphasized the need for high-quality healthcare, internet access, and innovative technologies to support sustainable agriculture in rural areas.
Senator Faraci stressed the importance of enhancing rural healthcare services to improve the quality of life for residents in these communities. ISA highlighted its commitment to advocating for rural communities and supporting local farmers through initiatives like the checkoff program.
Bryan Severs shared how the checkoff program benefits farmers and communities by investing in rural broadband access, transportation infrastructure, soybean utilization, and agricultural research. JT Barnhart discussed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on rural healthcare and the importance of expanding internet services to increase access to care.
The roundtable highlighted the need for collaboration among policymakers, industry leaders, and community representatives to drive meaningful change and support the growth and development of rural communities in the U.S.
