Israel escalates air strikes on Gaza in ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict

Israeli attacks in Gaza have resulted in dozens of deaths, including that of a local journalist, as the Palestinian death toll in the besieged territory nears 39,000. The Israeli military has continued to bombard Gaza, with strikes hitting various parts of the territory. The Palestinian Civil Defence reported retrieving the bodies of 12 people killed in attacks on the Nuseirat refugee camp and documented additional casualties in neighboring areas. Israeli forces also bombed a commercial building housing displaced people, resulting in more deaths and injuries.
The death toll among Palestinian journalists in Gaza has reached 161 since the start of the conflict. The Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that Israeli forces killed 37 people in the previous 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to nearly 39,000. Israel’s blockade on Gaza has led to a hunger crisis and the spread of diseases due to sewage spills around displaced people’s encampments. The Ministry of Interior warned against further displacement of Palestinians by Israel, accusing them of using psychological pressure on citizens.
Israel has increased attacks in Gaza amid ceasefire talks, with Hamas accusing them of intensifying bombings in response to a ruling by the International Court of Justice declaring the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories illegal. Hamas has called for action from the United Nations to stop Israeli “crimes and terrorism,” stating that pressure is needed to halt Israeli actions. The Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s military wing, and other armed groups have carried out attacks against Israeli forces in retaliation.
