Illinois delegation jeers at GOP jab at Pritzker replacing Biden

Illinois Republican delegates attending a breakfast program in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, expressed their disapproval when U.S. Senate candidate Bernie Moreno suggested that Gov. J.B. Pritzker could replace President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee for the 2024 election. Despite some boos and laughter, Moreno continued to criticize Pritzker with U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood echoing the sentiment, stating that Pritzker wouldn’t be in office if not for his wealth.

In a separate development, Illinois Congressional Republicans, including Reps. LaHood and Mike Bost, called for U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to resign over the agency’s failure to protect former President Donald Trump during an assassination attempt. Rep. Mary Miller also raised concerns about the incident, calling for Cheatle’s resignation.

Furthermore, Rep. LaHood highlighted the growing momentum behind Trump’s campaign, noting a shift in energy and optimism within the Republican Party. Outgoing Illinois Republican Party Chair Don Tracy urged delegates to work together to defeat the “crazy, dysfunctional Democrats” who have dominated statewide elected offices.

As the Republican National Convention comes to a close, Trump announced that he had rewritten his acceptance speech following the assassination attempt, focusing on a message of national unity. With pressure mounting on Cheatle to step down or be fired, the aftermath of the incident continues to shape political discourse.
