Illinois Angler Caught Cheating in Fishing Tournament

Illinois Conservation Police recently caught angler Dave Moore attempting to cheat during a Cal Sag Bass Anglers tournament by using illegal methods to increase the weight of his catch. Moore was found to be in possession of more fish than allowed and had imported fish from Lake Michigan without a permit.

The incident was reported by a witness who saw Moore acting suspiciously on the Calumet River the night before the tournament. Conservation police observed Moore retrieving smallmouth bass from a stringer and placing them in his boat’s live well before attempting to conceal his actions.

Moore’s catch was confiscated, and he was banned from participating in any future events hosted by Cal Sag Bass Anglers. He has been charged with multiple misdemeanors and a court date has been set in Cook County.

This incident comes just a year after two anglers were sentenced to jail time for cheating in a Lake Erie fishing tournament by using weights to make their catches appear heavier.

The fishing community is left wondering why some anglers choose to resort to cheating rather than simply focusing on catching larger fish. This latest scandal serves as a reminder of the importance of fair play and ethical practices in competitive fishing.
